About Heather's Highland Hounds
Heather's Highland Hounds was founded by me, Heather, a lifelong animal lover and Grantown-on-Spey local (ish!), with a passion for pets and the great outdoors. If there was such a thing as a Dog Lady (think cats...), I would be the definition! I want ALL the dogs! And if I had the space and the finance, I would set up a huge rescue facility with all the love, care and comforts these dogs deserve so much. Thankfully James, my husband, also adores dogs and has an uncanny ability to relax dogs and bond with them, despite being a towering 6ft3!
I grew up with a labrador, Sam. He was a fabulous boy, and I still miss him to this day. In 2007, I rescued my first collie, Gigha. She was completely crazy. In fact, we were expelled from dog training, and she was forevermore referred to as the ASBO dog! She settled, and became the most loyal and obedient friend I could ever have wished for. In her later years, she even became a Therapet.
Then Chico arrived into my life. He had had a really tough time before joining my pack. He was 9 when I rescued him, and I didn't think I would have him for even a year due to his health & other issues. I won't go into details, but suffice to say it took a very, very long time before he felt he could trust me and those in my life.
I met James not long after moving up to the Highlands, he also had a collie, it was like fate! James' Tyra was a beautiful girl who was our self-appointed guard. Chico lived to the ripe old age of 17, and Tyra 18!
Sadly, however, we lost all 3 within 4 years. We (and the kids) were all heartbroken. Our dogs lived well, and we knew when the time had come for each of them. We will never stop missing them.
We now have young Cuillin in our lives. He's locally bred, full of beans & mischief, and his relationship with the kids brings us so much joy. He came into our lives as a pup, as we wanted the kids & a dog to grow together. It's hard to remember life without him! We will likely go down the rescue route again in the future, but whilst our kids are still little, we'll keep that idea on hold for now.
I am passionate about all things dog, and I want to share this devotion & dedication with others who, due to circumstances, are not always able to give their dogs the time & attention they would like to give.
Having looked after friends and family dogs over the years, I have taken the plunge to turn something I love into a service. And so here we are!
